A tool error carries a code, a message, and the next step.
Tool errors
A refused tool call comes back as a tool error, not an HTTP error. The body has code, message, next_step, and sometimes link.
Codes

invalid_input | An argument is missing or invalid, or the text is over 20,000 words. |
task_not_found | That task id is not on this account. |
not_possible | The task type is off, the deadline is sooner than 1 day, a writer has already started, the task is cancelled, or no revision is left. |
approval_required | The high end is above the per-task max, above max_price, or above the auto-approve amount without confirm. |
budget_exceeded | This task would pass the monthly cap. |
setup_incomplete | The account has no card on file, or no task type is turned on. A quote skips this check. |
HTTP
The MCP URL accepts POST. GET and DELETE return 405. An invalid OAuth token or API key returns 401. An account that cannot use FinishThis returns 403, including finishthis_disabled when the organization is not enabled.
